We're On A Ship

I wanted to write this to tell other women that the decision to have a mastectomy was not easy. But it is one I am very happy that I made. My chances of developing breast cancer have dropped from 87 percent to under 5 percent. I can tell my children that they don’t need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer.

It is reassuring that they see nothing that makes them uncomfortable. They can see my small scars and that’s it. Everything else is just Mommy, the same as she always was. And they know that I love them and will do anything to be with them as long as I can. On a personal note, I do not feel any less of a woman. I feel empowered that I made a strong choice that in no way diminishes my femininity.

The camera refuses to capture the redness but here’s my newly dyed hair! It’s not as red as I wanted, the lady convinced me that Rihanna red hair is probably not a good idea in my college. I’m totally loving it though, it’s sorta orange-ish red #personal #me

They’re amazing and just so fun to work with. They’re so comfortable on the set. Just watching them work together, the lack of effort between them, is just fantastic. Also the fact that they’re so welcoming to guest stars — I felt like a family member the second I stepped on set, and that completely comes from the top, the tone that’s set by the leads of the show. So that’s a testament to them. They’re really super funny when they’re off camera. They want to make you crack, and I’m sure there are amazing outtakes of me just trying not to smile when Jared is off-screen doing his dialogue. But there is such an atmosphere of fun, and I think that really translates to the screen, that there’s joy of creation in the making of the show.
